I found this info online:

# STEP 1: Make sure baby is ready for an exersaucer. Your baby should be about 4 months old and have good neck and head control.

# STEP 2: Go shopping! You will find exersaucers that look like flying saucers or bouncing cars. They have trays, toy hooks, beepers and bonkers, and even water globes. Some of them have stable bases that grow with your baby. Some rock and some bounce. Most major toy chains carry a variety of exersaucers. Expect to pay $45 to $90 for the exersaucer of your choice.

# STEP 3: Buy a model that is easy to clean. If baby spends a lot of time bouncing and playing, you will want to wash the seat cover and toys often. Check how to detach the seat cover and toys for easy cleaning.

My son has been using a free standing jumper and a saucer since he was 3 1/2 months old and he loves it. I only let him stay in each one for 1/2 hour at a time. He keeps getting cold calves and I didn't want him to loss circulation. He is now 9 months and moving around in a walker.

Good Luck!

I put my son in the exersaucer for the first time at 13 weeks, but he was too small so we had to roll up blankets and put them around him. He had great leg stregth since birth so I thought he was ready. I think you just have to try it out. Stick him in it and if he can balance himself and doesn't slouch over, he's ready.

As long as your baby can hold his/her head up on its own, your baby is fine to be in an exersaucer. Even if she/he can't play with the toys yet, baby will love the new vantage point.

I agree as soon as they can hold their head up but I would recommend that you put a blanket around them to prop them just in case they thrust forward.
