There is a difference between spoiled and bad habits. "Spoiled" is an attitude in my opinion, that can't be displayed until a child is 2 or more. And even that results from bad habits set by parents early on. A baby CAN have bad habits established, however, such as having to be held all the time or they cry, or being rocked to sleep. Just read this board for a couple days in a row and you will see dozens of people asking for advice on how to break their baby's bad habit of sleeping with them, or needing a bottle to go to sleep, or needing to be held all the time in order not to cry, etc etc etc.

A baby under six months old cannot get spoiled by being held to much. physical contact with people is very important for development. but you also want to make sure baby gets plenty of tummy time so that it can develop its muscles and things and learn to crawl. so although you are not going to spoil baby please dont hold it constantly....let it play too!

Yes. But there's a difference. There's spoiled but not selfish, or there's spoiled and selfish. There's not spoiled and selfish, and there's not spoiled and not selfish. You can spoil your kid but just make sure it doesn't get a big head over it. You have to teach your kid to appreciate things, and that its hard getting them what they want, but you do it because you love them. You can spoil your kid, but please do the rest of us a favor and don't let them be a brat. A brat is a selfish, haughty, and UN-disciplined child. Whether they are spoiled or not.

Most Definitely!! My niece was and has been spoiled since the day she was born.. She's now 3 and to be honest she's uncontrollable!! That's why my husband and I don't spoil!! We didn't hold our son all the time, and not with our daughter now who's 7 mths.. Not that this means we don't hold our kids, but they do need to learn how to entertain themselves.. Good luck to you

YES!! I have a 7 month old that is held all the time and she is suffering from it by not developing at a normal rate. I now have to have her go through physical therapy. Someone told me that you can't over hold a baby and my daughter is living proof that you can.

No, I honestly believe that is a myth. I have two children, and I hold them whenever they feel they need it. I have no behavior problems or attachment problems with either of my children. They do not cry just to be held. I will never let my child cry him/herself to sleep because I am tired of dealing with them. It's not for me.

Nope, but they too are creatures of habit. Getting them into an appropriate schedule is good for them and you.
