I have a 1996 Chevy Lumina with about 130,000 miles on it. The AC worked perfectly until the cam shaft went...then the car sat in our garage for about 5 months until it was fixed. The dealership put a used engine in it, and since then, there is just no cold air coming out. The blower works, and so does the heat. Could this be something major or should I just try one of those refill kits? Thanks!!

Sounds like when they removed the engine, they disconnected the AC compressor and they lost the freon in the system. Or they may have caused a leak in the system and you lost your freon that way. You need to bring it back to the dealer and tell them ever since the repair that you have no AC. They will vacuum test the system for leaks. If there is a leak then they need to repair the leak 1st and then recharge your AC with new freon. If no leak, then a simple recharge will work for you.
good luck...........

Try a refill kit first. If that doesn't work, it's most likely a leak in the line or the condenser. They actually have kits to test for leaks. you can add it just like the refill kit and use a UV light to detect leaks. Still, you'd probably have to take it to a shop which means $$$.

Sounds like all the A/C freon leaked out. Or they forgot the recharge the A/C after they replaced the engine.

Try to refill the refridgerant first but becareful doing it yourself because you can permanantly ruin the A/C. Ask some old guys you know if they have done it a few times then but the parts and pay them with a six pack while they do it.

You need to have your air conditioner recharged with some coolant. It doesn't cost a lot. Between 50 to 100 dollars for this service.

You need your freon (sp?) charged.
