If not, where and why did this rumor get started?

No. I'm not sure where it go started but it is totally false. Breast Cancer is from a gene in the woman that is passed down from parents, grandparents and etc... even if a women (or even a male can be a carrier of the gene) is a carrier of the gene it doesn't mean they have it. The bra is just to support the breast and has absolutely nothing to do with breast cancer.
Hope I answered your question and helped!

I'd like to believe the answer to your question,
would be .. No.

But quite frankly, I'm not a doctor,
Nor a nurse.

So I personally have no idea.
But it's rather possible, I suppose.

Who really knows these days?
There are so many myth's and rumors going around,
It's hard to actually know the real truth behind the matter.

Sorry I wasn't of much help.

Good luck finding your answer though!
