I've read that polycarbonate is unsafe and I am unsure if acrylic is the same or not. I read that San Francisco has banned polycarbonate for baby bottles.

Yes, the most liberal place on the planet has banned yet another substance. The simple truth is that you have been using polycarbonate, polystyrene, polyethylene, and many, many other polymers your entire life. And you're just fine. The fact is that clean (containing no unreacted initiators and starting materials) are perfectly fine.

And most acids (including acetic[vinegar]) will not dissolve plastics. Some acids, particularly nitric, will dissolve rubbers, but not plastics.

The truth is, all of the plastic containers, metal containers and paper containers contain something that is hazardous to our health. So just eat, drink and be merry while you can.
