Both me and my boyfriend have a bank account together. He had the account first and all of the checks have his name on them. We then added me on to his account with equal rights. I was wondering if i'm allowed to sign those checks or if i have to order new checks that have both of our names. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Once you transferred the account to joint and several names, either one of you can sign.

No need to order new cheques.

Technically the bank would know that you were on the account if you just wanted cash, but if you wrote the check to another party, they would have no way of knowing if you had that authority. You should get new checks printed. Business checks are different than personal checks and many people may be able to sign them.

If as you say you were added onto the account, then the bank would have record of you as a signatory for that account.
You would know if you signed a signature card.
Whether or not you can convince someone to accept a check without your name on it that you signed is up to that party.
I would order new checks to be on the safe side, but Yes...
you can write them, and yes the bank should accept them.

You can sign the checks, however there is a strong chance you might run into some problems. I would go ahead and order new checks anyway so avoid any problems in the future.

YOu can sign them; but if you aren't shown on the check as an approved user of the account, you'll have nothing but trouble; each check will probably have to be OK'ed by the bank.

Get checks with both names

If both of your signatures are on the signature card at the bank, and this is a joint account, then you can legally sign the checks.

Personally I would order new checks and make sure they state and/or. But you should be able to sign the check, your bank should honor it if you have your signature on file.

I have the same situation with my wife. we just never have a time to get ordered new checks. it will be much better if you order new checks that have both names.

You may use them and send out in the mail with bills but most shops would question them and might refuse to accept them.
