Internet is a good medium, unless you pay for developing a site or incur fees for advertising on someone else site. Unfortunately most live spaces and blogs have contractual disclaimer which ban the use of their free site for the commercial gain of its users.
A lot of people do that on celebrity bloggers which has high traffic, Ypou can do that, but if you do it, you are breaching the clauses in the disclaimer. This malkes you legally liable although it is difficult to track down everyone doing it.
Advice, you could set up your independent stall in the corner of the road from a High school, at inter school games (I'm not sure how legal it is in your state). These events are sure to attract school kids, parents and other people who might be bookworms.

Yahoo! Answers wrote that blurb on spammers/advertisers because the consumer doesn't want a bunch of off-topic garbage.
Use a free newspaper to the public, or go to a blog spot that's hot.
