BBC TV has lost track of its role in society as demonstrated by last nights Graham Norton TV show. A young male was filmed while completely inebriated and shown to viewers as entertainment in the same way that once it was thought entertaining to visit an insane asylum. He was brought also live to the show to take a bow. Another item encouring us to bet, literally took the show to the dogs.

Oh My Gosh, Someone else who knows the "bread and circuses" reference. I think we've been slowly sinking into a mire of ignorance and stupidity on TV for some time now. I'm disappointed, but not surprised, that the BBC has followed suit. At least you can see fairly decent programmes on BBC 3 and 4. I would not be shocked if the reality tv makes pushed it to the absolute limit and started showing the interior of asylums or putting men in a ring to fight until death, it seems to be heading that way! Actually, I am seriously considering getting rid of the TV completely. It drains my intelligence too much!

Absolutely!! I, too, am glad that other people understand the reference to bread and circuses!!

The BBC are four-square behind the whole patrician oligarchy that now rule over us. In an effort to deflect any real examination of policy or ideology they get their hirelings in the media to feed us pap in an effort to numb our rationality.

I stopped watching TV a long time ago - the internet will be the saviour of Western civilization methinks!!

Well done for asking!!!

I didn't see the programme, but it doesn't surprise me. I wonder if BBC stands for Batty Bread and Circuses?
