I don't know, but Ubuntu, being a Linux variant has something called iptables that will help restrict unwanted access. It is highly configurable, but takes some understanding of Linux. Once a bogus program gets onto your machine, iptables probably won't be a lot of help.

Ubuntu also come with a bunch of network scanning tools that can be used.
I'm going to look this up, but try ubuntuguide.org

I wouldn't worry about getting a virus on ubuntu at all. It's not worth the slowdown. Linux VERY RARELY has a virus.

Anti Virus are the biggest offenders in slowing down (and crippling) your computer.

I've worked on alot of people's computers... and i've fixed so many problems by removing anti virus.

you do not need it, all you would possibly need it for would be if you are receiving email with attachments from windows pc's, and you would only need this to ensure you were not spreading infection to other windows users!

you do however still need a firewall, ubuntu is very good.
you could open up a windows virus on ubuntu and it would have no effect, firewall is called firestarter standard one for ubuntu.
