How can there be so many muslims or members of any religion in a communist country?
I thought communism meant openly practicing religion is a no no.

The reson is because China is now no longer a communist nation like it use to be. I am a Chinese that live in Beijing and my country changed a lot in the past decades. My goverment changed from planned econmy to free market econmy and religions are no longer outlawed like they use to be.
I know there are lots of people out there lieing about Islam being illegal in China. Please don't belive them.

The government may see Islam as a new or better way to control the people. ???
