3 volts. That's all it takes. The average discharge of shock from us is a lot lot more. So be CAREFUL!!!!!!!

PS ground yourself before doing anything, and don't touch anything inside if you don't know what you're doing. Sometimes you can't tell if you damaged it until weeks or months later.

40 volts or higher damages most RAM on newer computers. They aren't completely ruined, but if you have a large static electricity charge you can damage the chip beyond any use. 9 volts are used to run the RAM, so at least 40 should do it. I hope you don't, though- RAM is not a thing to waste.

Hi. Hopefully the device or memory will become unstable before it's ruined. If you are determined, just keep upping the V+ until this happens, then back off a bit.
