STEP 1: Click the Start button, which is often located in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen. A menu will appear.

STEP 2: Scroll up to Settings and click on Taskbar & Start Menu. A small window will appear.

STEP 3: Click Start Menu Programs, then click Add.

STEP 4: Type the path to the application (something like C:\Programs\MyProgram\Program.exe) in the command line, or click Browse to find the program by navigating through folders.

STEP 5: After you've located the application with Browse or typed in the path, click Next.

STEP 6: The folder and subfolders that appear next represent the Start menu and its submenus. Click the folder where you want your new shortcut to appear, or click New Folder to create a new subfolder. Then click Next.

STEP 7: Type in a name for the new item (such as MyProgram) in the text field that appears. Then click Finish.

STEP 8: Your new item is now added to the Start menu in the submenu that you selected. Test it to be sure it works properly.

The easiest way to restore your icons, is to reinstall your windows. You don't have to delete your stuff. All you have to do is first reboot the computer and stick in your windows system disc. (make sure it's set to boot cd-rom first) Then hit enter when it asks to boot from cd. A blue screen will come up and start loading drivers. It will then ask if you want to install windows. hit yes, then F8 to agree to terms. After this, another screen will come up. Hit r for repair and this should lead to reinstalling all of windows files. Once this is done (it will take up to an hour) and the computer reboots all your icons and anything else you deleted windows wise that you shouldn't have, will be restored.

Afterwards, try deleting some games and programs through the control panel and add/remove programs to clear out some hard drive space.
