best is a hard word to define. at the end of the day word etc can run on any pc out today regardless of spc. the issue is what do you really want your laptop for. i for example go on the train all the time so battery life is more important. The M range of intel prcessors was ment to be a watts friendly processor and this would be my choice if you need battery life. if you want pure performance and dont mind about your bat life then the sempron is technically the fastest of the two. think of it like an american the sempron is a 6 ltr v8 and does 2 miles to the g but an intel is a tdi golf (bad if you wanna go fast but it does get you there). Lefts remember folks if you want fast performance you prob shouldnt be buying a laptop thats that desktops are for (although the current range of xps laptops from dell can kill most desktops (when its plugged in of course)). Those people that say the celeron is a poor mans version of the higher intel cores are correct but the same is true with the sempron (it is a cripled version of the amd k8 core). i would recommend going for a core2 if money is no object otherwise i would get a turion based amd processor. they are the energy friendly processor range

For the choice you give there go AMD all the way. Celeron's are crippled processors really and best avoided. For older processors AMD generally kicks Intel around the car park.

However Intels latest Duo ranges have completely turned the tables and AMD is now on the end of a good kicking. Competition is good.

You don't mention the rest of the specs of the notebooks though, a bigger screens, graphics chipsets and drive types and sizes all need to be taken into account when considering notebook choice. Apart from memory notebooks are harder to upgrade so these could swing your decision.

ok study this intently. its puzzling that you need to get a fantastic answer in this one. why? becuase those who use AMD's will say that they are the most suitable.. and those that use Intel will say that they are the most suitable. i visit inform you my journey with AMD's are advantageous. I easily have a duo center.. and earlier that i had an straight forward a million.9. They both worked advantageous for what i wanted. someone with an Intel will say theirs is most suitable.. In different words its as a lot because the fellow. consequently... YOU.

AMDs generally a higher CPM (I think thats the correct abreviation) rating which basically means that they can process more in less time, so I'd recommend the Sempron. Not to mention that Celerons are terrible in general.

if you just want something for office then i would say that both of these processors are perfect. they will do the job that's needed, ie basic applications like word, excel and also the internet. i would suggest to get the cheaper of the two, as i presume that sempron is cheaper than intel?

Whatever you do dont buy a Celeron

Semprons are old hat but faster than Celerons
Try a Intel Duo or AMD Turion (Both are quick)
