Most say it means "Attention Baby". But, in my opinion it translates into "Watch Out Baby".

FYI: If you go to one of the translation sites, it will say Achtung = Attention. But Watch Out is a more.....informal translation, I suppose.

Achtung is German for Attention so work it out for yourself.
And yes the reference to Mel Brooks` The Producers is correct too.

It's a line from the 1968 Mel Brooks' film "The Producers" (not the Broadway musical, but the film on which the musical was based.) In the film, comedian Dick Shawn plays an actor named Ellis Dee (get it?) who's cast to play Hitler in a delightful musical romp called "Springtime for Hitler." Ellis is a big-time hippie... everything he says is followed by a "baby" (al-la Austin Powers). At one poiint of the film, he walks out on stage in full Hitler regalia and gives the Nazi salute whilst saying "Achtung, Baby!"

And there you have it... who knew Bono was a Mel Brooks fan?

actually, not only does "Achtung" mean "warning" or "danger" in German, but it also means it in Irish.

The early recording sessions took place in Berlin during the time the Berlin Wall came down, and trabant cars, which are German, were featured in one version of the "One" video on the ZooTV Tour, so there's that too...
