This is driving me CRAZY! How do you spell each of the 'Catherines' who were Henry VIII's wives (Catherine of Aragon, Katherine Howard, Catherine Parr: this is how I assume they are spelled, but I could be incorrect)?
Catherine/Katherine/Kathryn/Catharine?
Thanks a TON!

It varies depending on who's writing. The ones I normally see are Catherine of Aragon, Kathryn Howard (or Kat Howard) and Katherine Parr.

Catherine of Aragon (later the marriage was annuled and she was known as "The Dowager Princess of Wales")
Anne Boleyn, 1st Marchioness of Pembroke (the first woman to ever hold a peerage in her own right in England)
Catherine Howard (who was a cousin of Henry's also)
Anne of Cleves (annuled for being ulgy but given an alloance and palace)
Jane Seymour (died after giving birth to a male heir - thus she got burried next to Henry)
Katherine Parr (sometimes spelled with a "C" but her tomb spells it with a "K.") she was lucky enough to out live him too!

Katharine of Aragon (of course, this was a translation of the Spanish original with a "C")
Catherine Howard
Katharine Parr.

But I found another link contradicting this. http://tudorhistory.org/wives/

I think the real truth is that in those days there was no established spelling pattern. Shakespeare used to experiment with different spellings of his name!

The pope does not grant Henry's divorce from Catherine because of the fact of her nephew Emperor Chales V of Spain who were attacking Rome on the time, even keeping the pople prisioner for a time. In 1529 Henry promoted Thomas Cromwell and Thomas Carnmer who made steps to annul the marrage, supported by potential of bribes and favors Parliment began to look favourably on the proposals in 1530. For thier loyalty, Carnmer became appointed Archbishop of Westminster and Crowell as an consultant to the King. Cromwell here cautioned that Henry substitute into head of the Church in England. In 1533, Henry secretly married Ann Boleyn and had allies in parliment ban an attraction to Rome. the recent Archbishop immediately declared Henry's marrage to Catherine invalid and his new one to Boleyn valid. The Pope acted to excommunicate Henry in July 1533. It became Cromwell that cautioned a number of of the guidelines that enforced the breach with Rome in 1534.

There doesn't seem to be any standardized spelling, and people in this period frequently spelled their own names differently each time they signed them. Like Shakespeare.
