i have a car with a chevy 350 v8 in it. it's not my daily driver, and i kind of want to put a more powerful engine into it, so lately, i've been seeing just what the old 350 can take. Today, I drove 4 miles down the straight highway with the gas floored, all the way. Then, when there was no traffic, i stopped in place, held the brake down as far as i could, and floored the gas. i pretty much burnt the right tire off the rim. Then, when i got home, i sat in the driveway revving the engine to 6,000 rpms, and then put it in drive, put the E-brake on completely, held the normal brake down as far as i could, and floored the gas. it stayed right at 1,500 rpms and it sounded like it was under a HUGE load. the tires weren't spinning or anything. Keep in mind, i don't want to blow up this engine by draining the oil, just running the hell out of it. How hard was i on this engine today?

well, i just checked it, the torque converter is fine. Seems to be running as good as ever. I think i'll stop running the crap out of it for now. after all, i did want to take it to the race track this summer : ). so anyway, if anyone has any tips on beefing up this motor, do tell. it's already kinda fast. it runs a 16.2 quarter mile with a TH350 trans, and a 2.92 rear end gear(this explains the slow track time)

Keep it up and you'll kill the transmission, not the engine. You'll also possibly kill the : rear-end (differential), universal joints, motor mounts, transmission mounts. If this car isn't a junker, why would you do this? The 350 Chevy is one of the easiest engines to modify for higher performance. Don't try to kill it, just build it up, provided you haven't destroyed the car it's attached to.

hope you have money to replace your engine soon because if you do that every you will blow you engine do not work you car that hard only floorit on a race track because on surface streets it is real easy to spin out plus you never know when a cop will be on that long road just waitng for somebody to go by speeding the tickets aren't pretty the base price is like $250 and $5 for every mile over the speed limit you are plus if you get caught going over 100mph the cop will most likey impound your car so be careful and drive safely

Obviously not hard enough but you did your torque converter no favors .You sound like you need to drive a car that will really go.

hey dude i have a word for u and that is

God, that engine survived.

dude any vehicle in ur hand is liek a garland in the monkeys hand.

and when i come to think of it my frnds call me the task master then if they had just seen u they would have crushed u just like u crushed that poor vehicle.

dont do that to the vehicle cos u treat the vehicle cool it treats u cool.

I think you may need to be prepared to put a transmission or two in it before you get ready for the next engine. You may have already burned it up.
