What soap could they discuss - coronation street and the 93 murders that the people in one street have been involved in since it started.

All soaps are filmed some 6 weeks before they are broadcast. Any mention of 'real life' events, TV or radio programmes would, therefore, be out of date by the time we watched it.
For instance imagine watching Eastenders on Monday and one of the characters says " Hey, see that Charlie Stubbs got killed on Corrie last night"
This is why tragic/historic events are never mentioned.The Fall of the Berlin Wall, Princess Di's death, 911, Iraq war etc. Although Phil Redmond DID try it once on Brookside inserting a fifteen second scene complete with 'real' newspaper in which two characters discussed Princess Di's death. It was horribly obvious that it was an insert and nobody has tried it since.
Lets just accept that soap world is a different world.

Because no one in the show has any concept of TV soaps.
Eastenders was set up in 1986 as a revolutionary reality TV show, in which characters are bred into the fictional suburb of Walford, and are convinced they are living real lives. The result of any acknowledgement of a TV soap existing would create a paradox of cataclysmic proportion, and all the cast would turn to dust.
Which would then be swept up by Gus and Wellard.

none of them have washing machines either and all those out of work always manange to find the money to spend all day in vic

yeah and why nobody has a washing machine and everybodys skint but their all in the pub getting p**sed up or in the cafe eating it bare..lol..

because they are to busy, they either working on the market,in the vic or sleeping with each others husbands/wifes. that why they never watch t.v they are to busy!
