It's just unfair.
Me and my friend are like a year younger than it, wow. That doesn't mean we should have to miss out on the gig, because it's one of our favourite bands.

Because venues make most of their money in liquor sales. If the band is big enough to get a good turnout without having underage people there, the venue will do that whenever possible. Having a huge underage turnout can mean turning away potential drinkers, not to mention all the employees hate dealing with the underagers and the bad tipping (or no tipping) that goes along with a bunch of people buying only sody pop and water. Additionally, if it's an AA show, curfew must be taken into account, which can also mean people won't drink as much (people don't start seriously getting their drink on at 5 PM). Many venues plan for all of their shows to be either 18+ or 21+ and only have all ages shows when bands specifically request it. Bright Eyes is notorious for having a young turnout, and Oberst might be trying to move away from the "kiddie-band" image himself.

Well, it usually depends on where the concert is being held. If it's a bar set up, they usually won't let anyone under the age of 18 in. Usually the only places where under 18 can see a concert is a concert hall or venue like Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheatre. Sorry!

Because no one wants a bunch of kids around when they are watching a show and drinking.
