Yeah, ancestry.com and DNA are good places. I would also suggest talking to family members to see what info they have. i started looking into my background about three years ago and found out that one of my cousins had already been looking into our family history for a few years so I was able to get a lot of info from her.

Have your DNA checked, it costs about $300. Check online.
