I'm looking to buy a 1 GB USB flash drive memory stick but why is there such a difference in the pricing? There are Kingston Data ones for $8 and ScanDisk sells their's for $50. I understand a difference in price, but this is a huge difference. Surely the product does the same thing, right? Why the big difference? Which one should I buy?

On reason would be due to the amount of data a thumb drive can hold. They usually range from 128 MB - 2 GB (2048 MB). I know some thumb drives can be password protected as well, so features like that would also add on to the price.

Some have more features than others, also some are better quality than others. I am in australia. A budget flash drive only lasts me about 4 - 5 months where a more expencive one will last me a few years so they work out being cheaper in the end. I currently have a toshiba and it is the best drive that i have ever had. Look out for postage costs if you order online, as well as warranty receipts and documentation. I always recommend getting a flash drive from a store so that if anything goes wrong in the warranty time you can get it replaced and you have more support than getting it online.
