More universe. It is self-contained.

Nothing contains the universe. But the universe contains everything known to man and stuff we don't even know exists. There are no words or numbers that can describe the size of the universe. Infinity squared or cubed to infinity. The universe had no beginning, it will never have an end, center, edge, corner, or any other conceivable idea. No up or down, no left or right, no north east, south, or west. It is a total vacuum with greatly spaced galaxies rocks, dust , and random gasses. It has no power, force, magnetism, gravity, speed, or anything else like that. It just is. It is everything, and it is nothing.

We are within the Universe because there is nowhere else.
By definition, the Universe is EVERYTHING!

Theory tells us that it may be possible for alternate realities may exist. Also that there may be slight shifts in Phase so that the universe is basically billions of universes existing at the same time in space but with a Phase variant.

According to the Big Bang Theory - the universe is expanding but this is a common misconception.
The MATTER that was generated in the 'Bang' itself is expanding out into the Universe. The Universe remains constant (and infinite) but the movement of matter makes the perspective change.

Well if you think about it the universe is everything as we know it. The universe is space and time(Everything that is in extisence). As far as something being outside of the universe to hold it in there is nothing. The universe is expanding and creating itself. It is not expanding into anything. The ends of the universe is the end there is nothing beyond that.

I'm not aware of any theories on the subject. What's to say there's anything containing it? The universe is still expanding thanks to the effects of the Big Bang, and so the only constraint is the distance between the furthest thing on one side the the furthest thing away from it. There's no physical barrier preventing us from travelling further, only time.

You are not contained within a universe like a goose trapped inside a bottle, you are the universe

I sometimes like to think that subatomic particles are a little universe all to themselves. Protons are stars, electrons are little planets orbiting stars. A galaxy would be a molecule. So a whole bunch of molecule galaxies make up some kinda object.

Don't forget that the word universe defines that it contains everything already, so there is nothing else to put into the universe that isn't already in it.

We don't know. I think that the universe is a bubble, floating in a vast ocean of infant parallel universes each width their own laws of physics.
