even though you seem to have plenty of answers i will just add onto the list... I recently went to a jewler and they told me November's birthstone used to be yellow topaz but it became to expensive to make or something similar to that so they changed the birthstone to citrine because it is cheaper and they look very similar and color so it was an easy switch.

Yellow topaz. I think it's ugly - I prefer a blue topaz, but some sticklers say only the yellow.
