Has anyone heard of or used the new birth control Mirena?

I have seen the commercial on t.v. and it looks like something I would really want to try. I just need a little bit more information.

I have it and LOVE IT!!!!! My period come about once every 2-3 months now and last 1 day and is very light with little or no cramping and ive had it less than a year. No wait gain no puking. But where im from they will only let you get one if you have had a child or are married. putting it in feels like and extremly bad PMS cramp...but you have had kids its nothing to that. I plan to keep mine till im ready for my next child and they said when its removed i will be fertile ASAP. Its a no worry, side effect free form of BC and i love it!!!!It cost about 500-600 but i know the mirena co. has a payment plan now and also you might try your local health dept. I did and got mine free. but even if you dont 500 bucks for 5 years of BC aint bad! hope I helped!!!

I would not recommend Mirena.

My doctor told me that it would not cause weight gain. However, I am one of those weird people that immediately packs on 10lbs the moment hormones at any level are put into my body.

Even worse, I had significant hair loss. My hair has thinned to the point that people have noticed it.

I'm sure that many people use Mirena without any side effects at all. You just have to hope you're one of them. If you try it, pay attention to what your body tells you. If you think something is wrong and Mirena is the cause, do your research. Ask you doctor, but don't be surprised if they tell you Mirena couldn't cause that. Read as much as you can, but more than anything listen to your gut.

After looking into it, I found that there is a fairly large group of women who have had these same side effects. If I had known this was a possibility, I would have chosen another option.

I had mine taken out today. Hopefully, the hair will grow back and the weight will come off. We'll see...

I had Mirena put in about 2 months ago and completely am loving it. You will have a little bit of cramping for a day or two, but you never have to worry about a pill or anything else.

My periods are still a little irregular but I wont have a period pretty soon which is really nice. Ask your doctor for the brochure or go to this link and you can read all sorts of information about it......

I have the Mirena IUD..............I have had for about 8 months now and LOVE IT. I highly recommend it. For the first few months you have off and on spotting.........but I haven't had a real period since getting it.
