Being a Freelance Makeup Artist means you are your own boss. You find your own work, and work when you want. To become a freelance makeup artist isn't that easy though. Cosmetology school is help but wouldn't quite cut it considering hair is mainly learned in there. There are two schools in the US that offer a Bachelor's Program for Wig and Makeup Artists. North Carolina School of the Arts (better of the two) and CCM. That would be the best way to break into the field of makeup artistry. They both also have Graduate Programs.

Freelance is just when you work for yourself and not for a company. Freelance does not imply any qualifications. Being a makeup artist may have qualifications, but freelance is a general term. It is harder to work freelance unless you have a ton of connections and you can find your own work or people find you because you have a good reputation.

I would suggest creating an account on Primplist. It is a website where Freelance Hair Stylists and Makeup Artists can bid on jobs.

The term "freelance" in makeup means you work directly with your own clients and they pay you directly. A freelance makeup artist is a cosmetics professional who usually travels to his or her clients' locations. If you work at a counter, like in a department or makeup store, you either work for the store or a particular line of cosmetics--whoever pays your salary. Each store will have different rules about whether you can mix or match makeup products. You probably have more options at a makeup store, like Sephora, that sells lots of different products. But if you work for MAC or Clinique or whatever, you'll probably have to stick with their products. After all, that's how they make their money.

To be a frelance make-up artist would be, instead of working for a single company, you sign out contracts to many diff companys/people. I have never heard of or seen a freelance make-up artist, but then again I am not in the make-up inustry...There are freelance artists all over the world, if you think its something you want to do/try, go for it...

Freelance make up artist not only find their own work but they can also work for a company and travel while getting paid hourly. If you freelance by yourself you would be your own boss and have to find work, which is not that easy. You would have to have a lot of connections and be known in this industry. But if you work for a company they make the appointments for you. You just have to show up to the event ready on time to work your magic.

You do your own work, you'er your boss. As opposed to working for MAC or somewhere in a mall or at a Sephora or something.
There are no qualifications but taking a make-up course wouldnt hurt.
