I am 28, have had the same prescription for about 5 years now. I am sick and tired of dealing with glasses and contacts on a daily. Was wondering some of your opinions on this procedure. Also the cost? I am a nursing student and have spring break coming up, will everything be healed in a week for me to return to school with no problems? will I still have to wear glasses? HELP please any advice at all would be great!!

I had LASIK almost 9 years ago when I was 31.
It was the best thing I ever did!
It took maybe a weekend to feel better, but a full three months to heal. You should be able to return to school after one weekend.
Mine was on a Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, I woke up with 20/20 vision. (I had been wearing a -8 prescription).
You should only need reading glasses in another 15 years or so, just the norm that everybody has.
I know the cost has gone down since then, but I paid about $4000. It was worth every penny.

Best of luck!

I just had the surgery done about two months ago. It is actually a very quick procedure. The only discomfort is the device that immobilizes your eyeball. It puts pressure on the eye. Even though the cornea is numbed, you feel the pressure in the back of your eyeball. It only lasts about 20 seconds per eye.

When the anesthetic wears off, your eyes burn like you have been swimming in the ocean. It is enough to keep you (or at least me) from sleeping, but not really painful. You are supposed to keep your eyes closed for at least 3 hours. That helps them heal quickly. They will water quite a bit.

After 3 hours, my vision was 20/30, good enough to drive. I stayed at a hotel across the street that night. In the morning, I was amazed at how well I could see.

Right after your surgery, your vision will be pretty sharp, but it is like you are looking through a haze. This gradually clears up. You see halos around headlights at night, but this gradually diminishes.

I was told that some people feel discomfort for a few days, like sand in their eyes. My eyes felt normal after 24 hours, but I heal quickly.

Lasik is not practical for young people. Your eyes change. I think that it is better to wait until your are older, maybe 40, although I spoke with some girls who had the treatment at the clinic. They were in their 20's. I hope that they don't experience changes in their vision.

I had the state of the art procedure. It cost several thousand dollars. This includes follow up exams for a year. The important thing if you elect to have the procedure is to follow the advice of the doctor explicitly. Don't deviate from it. Your eyes are at risk. Make sure you use the antiseptic drops, and the anti-inflammotory drops, exactly as directed.

Good luck.

i have a good friend that had it done last Friday and she went back to work yesterday. she said the first couple days there was some discomfort but her eye sight is already 10 times what it was. she was told take it easy for the first 6 weeks, no 4x4ing or anything that will jar her . she is 35 and has been wearing glasses since she was 12. she said the biggest challenge is not getting startled when she sees things she could not before.
best of luck to you

Im 35, got it done last year. Wish I did 10 years ago. Can see perfectly in 12 hours. Need to do a follow up in 7 days. No swimming on spring break. Cost was $2100 and well worth it.

I had this surgery about 6 years ago and I love the results. I had it done on Thursday and except for the checkup all i did was put medicine drops and went on my way from the second day after they removed the patches. Cost has been reduced since mine was done. Talk to the eye surgeon and he can give you a better time line.

You can go back to work the next day, but you must wear the dorky dark glasses that they give you for about a week.. It's great not wearing glasses!

ok i saw this dude get the surgery on tv. it was real. the procedure took about 3 minutes. he walked out w/o needing glasses, or contacts. and yes he could see just fine. cost varies and is expensive. but, they now do payment option plans depending on where you go. look into some different clinics and price hunt! good luck.

the proceedure is not that hard. actually my assistant is having his eyes done next friday. one thing i hope you will keep in mind and that is that you do not get a second pair of eyes and they do not grow back like nails or hair, so make sure you find the best there is to perform the proceedure. it can cost up to $2500 per eye.

It will cost you about 1000.00 or even less. My b-in-law and his wife did it and they came out great, so they say.But an friend has done it twice already and she still needs glasses. You have to protect your eyes for about two weeks and no swimming pools.
