It used to stand for "What Would Tyler Durden Do?" but I think it's been hijacked (pardon the pun) to mean "What Would a Terrorist Do?"

You'd have to give us an example of how it was used to see if it was an inside joke or not.

The "in" part of the joke is that you can substitute anyone you want for the "T" in WWTD, which will then only make sense in whatever context you use it in. Browsing a search engine for WWTD, you'll see the "T" stand for "Torah," "Thor," and a host of celebrities.

only thing i can think of is in terms of the film fight club, the letters WWTD stand for "what would tyler (durden) do?"

not sure why it's an in-joke though.
