So long as it's made with fiber fill and not natural down (fluff off feathers), then you can do it at a laundry mat. I do mine in my washer and dryer about once every couple of months and it comes out good as new every time, and I've had mine for over 10 years. It will fade a bit, but then again, it'll only fade a little for a wash or so.
The cleaners would be best of course if you don't want any fading, but it'll actually be cleaner when washed with water and detergent.
Either way, good luck!

I would take the comforters to the dry cleaner's, they will probably get it clean because they may have high-power washers. Try to get whatever dog hair you can off though, first. Good luck.

Most dry cleaners will launder comforters, but most laundromats have oversize washers and dryers that would allow you to wash and dry it yourself for less money.

You can also take it to the laundry mat where they have certain machines especially for comforters. In my experience it was about $5.00.
You can also take it to the dry cleaning place if you want.
