Mixing drinks giving you a hangover is a complete and total myth. Generally people have way over imbibed when they start mixing drinks or go on to over do it when they do, and then experience a hangover due to the quantities of alcohol consumed.
Drink plenty of water throughout the day prior to going out, another glass or two just prior, followed by several when you return home. Avoid aspirin before going to bed as it can harm your stomach. A normal multivitamin may help as well.

Never mix. Always stick to the same alcoholic beverage for the entire evening. Don't do any shots, either...unless you want to barf. Drink lots water during evening, between drinks to avoid dehydration -- that's what gives you a hangover -- a dried-out brain.
