See if you can work with another interior designer in your area for a small time to get the experience under your belt. Then you could go off on your own when you feel you have enough knowledge.

I wish you lived near me for a start. Why don't you link up with a property prospector or propery seller and ask if you can redo their home as a show piece, have your cards all over it, that way they have help in marketing their property and you get a lot of exposurefrom agents and buyers-who will be redecorating their own new home soon. Or link up with an independant furniture store and offer to be an assistant if you can also sell your service. Or cater to someone like me at the lower end of the proeprty chain who jsut wants advice on paint color and the best way to present my home. Or get a van and be a mobile decorator, there are people who do that with no propert raining or degree and make a living

easy. go work for an interior design firm. also, you can practice your design "chops" by working at an ethan allen type store. these aren't the only ways, but a good start. I've been in the window covering business for 38 years, and i know quite a few successful I-D's who started tht way.
