In the leaflet to my new contraceptive pill it says alcohol and cigarettes are not recommended in use with the pill.. I have been taking the pill for a while now and have never come across this warning before..Should I take this seriously?
Have any of you had any bad experiences concerning the effect being weakened?
I don't drink excessively but I do enjoy my pints at the weekend..

It doesn't discourage the use of smoking and alcohol because it will reduce the effectiveness of the pill. They discourage it because the pill can put you at a higher risk for heart disease and blood clots and drinking and smoking can increase the chances of something bad happening.

Alcohol is bad for you because it thins your blood, so when you have a period, you may bleed more than you are suppsed to. Ciggarettes are bad when you take birth control because they increase chances of blood clotting.
