It is true that suburban America has no idea what life is like in the inner city. Where I disagree with you, and many others, is the continual attempts to turn this into a race issue.
I am white and born and raised in the inner city, with neighbors of all races, and we were all poor and over looked together. There are blacks and indians and asians in the suburbs too, and they are no less ignorant to the troubles of the inner city than the whites who live there.
On the same note, your race has no effect on the quality of your life in America these day, there are only the rich and the poor, and they come in all colors. I wasn't treated any better than others in my poor a** neighborhood just because I was white. In some cases, my life was even harder than that of some of my minority neighbors. Nobody pays attention to that though.
It's not black and white, it is rich and poor. The sooner people stop pushing this racist view, the sooner we will be able to deal with the real issue in this country, the great inequities that those without money face, regardless of their race.

C'mon... Do you really think that "white America" has lived in the suburbs since 17th Century? "White America" lived in the "inner city," as you called it, for generations. But back in those days, it wasn't called the "inner city" - it was called the slums. Just because "white America" is one or two or even three generations out of the slums does NOT mean that their memories have been erased.

Don't mix up "white America" or the average "white" family, with the rich people (white and black) living off their great-grandfather's inheritance. Those rich people probably don't have a clue. But that is NOT white America and never will be.

And, please, get rid of the chip on your shoulder.

I'm not sure that you have to distinguish color in your question. Many races are born and raised in suburban American and many of them do not have a clue what life in the city is like. Some do, some don't.

Some urbanites don't have a clue about "inner city" life either

Not a Chance. However a lot of hard working black families live in the suburbs and absolutely would not go to the inner city because they do have a clue. It's generally not a hospitable place, for those who have a life, a family, responsibilities, own a home etc no matter what color they are. Would you take your wife and kids there and park your Beemer on Hoop Street in Philadelphia?

I doubt very much that I do, and after all the news I hear and read, I'm not sure I want to. Also, I'm not 100% sure why I should care considering I don't live there and I am not worried about getting shot or robbed where I live. Its not my job to keep those people from killing each other or robbing and beating each other, and for that reason, I have chosen not to care about what goes on in the inner city. I do however like to hear the stories of those who have escaped the inner city and become upstanding and productive members of society. Unfortunately, that's probably less than 1% of the people that live in the inner city. The rest are too cracked out or have too many kids or just flat don't care if they are burden to society, and that disgusts me so again I choose not to care. Thanks and have a nice day.

Do you have a clue to what life is like in suburban America? If I wanted to live in the inner city ( since I grew up in the Detroit suburbs, I have no desire to) I would. Do like the millions of folks in Detroit did. That is why the population of Detroit is now under a million.

Well, since most live and work there, most of them don't.

That is a fact. Are you hoping the suburbanites should know about the inner city workings?

Do we have a clue about life in Europe or Japan? ... if we live here in the US, we know about where we stay. We may hear and see a few things about Europe by watching movies or visiting, but that does not mean that all visitors, etc, know everything about Europe & Japan.

Does black America have a clue about what life is like for street children in the Philippeans?

Does black America have a clue what life is like for the millions of starving people in miserable cold of North Korea?

Does black America have a clue what life is like for the 17 million white Americans living in poverty, especially in the Appalacian mountains?

Does ... shall I go on?

I'm not white, but I grew up in the inner city and moved to the suburbs.

No they are self-motivated and really don't care.

They really have no idea what goes on or what life is like for someone born into a poor inner city environment nor do they care too.

They best part is most of these people also claim that they are religious but do very little in thier own communities..

Hypocrites
