The file we are discussing is not on my PC it is on a linux server so programs that have been suggested like notepad or word are not applicable as those programs do not exist on the server.

Sometimes when you take ascii text and try to view it in Notepad, it loses all formattings as Notepad doesn't know how to interpet any of the formatting commands.

Your best bet would be to open up the file in Wordpad then save it as a TXT and then it should open up correctly in Notepad.

Another thing, be sure when you upload, that your FTP client is set to AUTO or for ASCII... if it's set to BINARY, and can put extra bits in the file that might cause some viewing glitches.

Sometimes if you try to open a file on a computer that doesn't have the program necessary to open a file with that particular extension, then it will just open it in notepad and display a bunch of nonsense text.

Make sure of what the file extension is - if it has been changed, you can try changing it back, but the file may be corrupted.
