Yes, I long for a simpler time. How I would define that I'm not sure. But it sounds good.

I think that "simpler" cannot be confused with "easier".

But I often wonder if there is a negative impact on human beings to be placed in an office and/or school environment (think cubicle and desk and flourescent lighting) for the majority of our lives, considering that this "office" environment has only existed for about the last 150 or so years. It is not our natural habitat. Before that, most people spent thier days on a non-regimented schedule and outdoors. Sure, we can adapt to it, but does it demoralize us as a society? For example, I wonder what the suicide rate was 200 years ago as compared to today.

I would imagine that 200 years ago the majority of people spent their days farming or being a tradesperson. There was no 40 hour time card work week, or internet, or I "must have it now". Things were slower paced. So it was simpler in that regard. But there were also no washing machines, dishwashers, tractors, etc., so the physical work was harder than today. Not to mention the medical advancements that have been made. But was work more rewarding back then, as opposed to sitting at a desk all day long? Yes, I think so. But I'm not so sure I could live without air-conditioning, especially during the Tennessee summers ;)

Well, yes, if there ever was a simpler time. We think that people used to live simpler less complicated lives, but they didn't. Think about the struggles we have now? Were they really that much different? Families still fight and break up, people still have and had money problems, people still have to go to jobs they don't like and so on. I honestly don't think that the problems I have were ever non-existant in the world and were created by our current culture climate - they have always been there. The human condition is, always was and always will be the same.

What does it mean to live in a simpler time?

Simpler times were when I was a child and had no responsibilities. As an adult I'm busy chasing after things, career, relationship, material wealth. If I'm willing to give these things up I can live more simply. What then? Will I be bored and just spend my time watching TV? I think the true answer is balance. Don't be so busy chasing things that we miss out on the pleasures that are around us everyday.

I'd also recommend reading the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible to get an older wise Kings view as he looks back over his life.

I feel we have it in us to lead a simpler life if we really want to. We can do with a lot less. I wish I didn't hv a job that takes up 90% of my day though. It sucks. Not the job per se, but the fact that I have zero time for anything else. This isn't life! But what to do, am by myself and we hv to make a living. Am thinking of ways to earn some from home. Hope that happens.

less complicated? What would properly be extra straight forward than having each little thing automatic, and on the contact of a button. No, no longer extremely, i love issues the way they're. I advise, i'd provide up fantastically a lot something, yet do not lower than any circumsatance, take my toliet. it truly is the single element i elect to save. Indoor plumbing.
