It's to do with the Act of Union in 1707. The Nobles were bribed with English money to effectively sign away Scotland's political independence (against the will of the Scottish people), hence to quote Rabbie Burns poem "Parcel o rogues"
"We were bocht an sold for Inglis Gold,
sic a parcel o rogues in a nation".

Thats is so untrue Scotland wasnt bought for gold .Who ever came up with that stupid idea wants to read scottish history .Why would we take gold from a country who massacered Raped and pilaged many highland crofts because they wanted the land to breed sheep on .you need to read about the Highland clearances.
