I can't believe people who believe this, that the only people who join the army are the ones who have troubled childhoods and want to have an excuse to kill people legally. If you talk to people in the army (like myself) they would most likely say that they would prefer not to see battle and I dont think anyone ENJOYS killing people, well maybe a couple, but what ever happened to good old American patriotism and fighting for your freedoms etc. Is Old Glory not a beacon of respect anymore?

And screw anyone who starts this thread out by responding "Not since Bush got elected".

@ Sean X.

They do not kill innocent people. They kill Insurgents who are armed and have declared themselves a militia who is agains tthe united states. American troops do not target civilians, that practice is known as "total war" which we are not doing right now. There are collateral damages unfortunately but 80% of civilian deaths are caused by islamic extremists who blow up marketplaces and mosques.

@ Sean X AGAIN

"A lot of Iraqis would disagree with you and 100% of civilian deaths are a result of the American invasion."

You've never talked to an Iraqi in your life you fool. And these terrorists where doing these things prior to 911 and prior to the US envasion. Civialians are not intentionnaly killed at the hands of US troops EVER. It is more strategic to have them on your side which is why we BUILD THEM CHURCHES AND HOUSES AND READ THEIR KIDS STORIES, HAND OUT GOOD ETC... but you forgot all of that didn't you, you only dwell on teh 1 time a rogue soldier goes awol and kills a civilian. Typical.

@ Wolf

"because we keep hearing stories and cover-ups about soldier killing and raping civilians.
and I know of people in the military who like to kill "

I understand, the killing in Haditha etc are terrible atrttrocities and are not condoned nor supported by the milatary, you must remember that these people were punished for their evil, they killed those people out of their own free will and were not given orders to do so. There are many killers on American streets too, its part of human nature. The fact that these hundreds of thousands of troops can hold their composure under this type of stress without killing civilians is amazing, and that only a couple do out of hundreds of thousands?? Thats better than the American civilians can say.

The only people who say things like that are those who have been spoon fed and unhealthy dose of anti-military liberalism. They never served in the military themselves and they don't know anyone who is presently deployed. Finally, they have never taken the time to talk with anyone serving in the armed forces of the United States.

Put quite simply, they have been told what to think by their ideology and will not permit themselves to be confused by the facts.

I never heard of it as being trained to kill, rather it was called being trained in how to survive in Combat.
Make no mistake about the military's role. But is there's any killing to do, we'll do it to the other guy.
I would not want to be near a guy who enjoys it..

People that say things like that have no concept of reality. Little do they know that some people will actually join for love of their country. That is a concept that is WAY over their heads.

First of all, thanks for your service. Remember, that makes it possible for them to say such things.
I think that most of these people are just trying to surreptitiously trying to relive the anti-war demonstrations of the Vietnam era.
