be 17 next week and the "baby" will be 15 in June. This intimidates me because I am only 10 years older than the oldest and 12 years older than the baby. While it should be easy for me to relate to them because we are somewhat close in age, I don't know how to prepare myself for their reactions or the treatment I might receive. Right now I know it is not about me it is about the reunion of the kids and there Dad, but how do I fit myself in and include myself without being the evil stepmother?

Just go on like you are their best freind, let them build their relationship with their father again, and you will fit into the picture like youy should, the only way they would get the idea of you being the evil step mother is that if you are evil. There is only 9 yrs between my daughter and step daughter, sure there werew rough times, just like there are in amy normal family relationship, but to this day they get along as best freinds, and they have been in each others lives for ten years now, just have fun with it, make people wonder how old you are to have such kids, turn a few heads, and then sit back and laugh at them for being so niave. Life is what you make of it, not what you get out of it.

Most likely things will be awkward at first but put yourself in the friend zone. Don't step right up and take on the mom roll, act like you are meeting new people to bond with . Children 15 and older dont really need more discipline, just mentoring and that's what friends do anyways.

Don't worry one bit. I my fiance has 5 kids, oldest is 16, youngest 6. I have known them for 3 years now and they love me. And I am only 10 years older than the oldest. They think that makes me cool!

Don't be the evil stepmother. You are not the disicplinarian.
Stay in the background and let them warm up to you. Be encouraging and supportive.
This is going to be rough on them. Be patience and if you have to say "no", explain why.
Good luck.

At the age they are now you are not going to have much influence over them regardless of how old you are. Actually he will not have much influence over them either after five years unless they remember him fondly.
You be you and they will be them, as guide though let him discipline his children. If they do something you don't like tell him to sort it out.

Lots of patience. Don't try to force your way in, let them accept you for you.
