if you change the cambelt when you aquire the vehicle this gives a datum point for refering to the manufacturers recommendeds. oatherwise you haven't got a starting point. vehicle vendors always claim the cambelt has just been changed. it's a good sales patter as is the last owner was an old lady / vicar. it's cheaper to replace it than rebuild the head.

60,000 miles.
The original design spec was for a change at 96,000 miles, but Rover amended the schedule about 1996 to 60,000 miles after a number of early faliures.

You didn't give any idea of year of redg, just checked Autodata and across the range at that engine size the interval is 60k or 5yrs.
