I feel when "all" politicians" and all those running for office are forced to go to VA hospitals when they need medical treatment, I believe there won't be rot and rats in them anymore. What do you think?

I could have done without the Einstien remark duh, Thanks snowball, for the info., I didn't know. I was reffering to the fact, those who fought for our country should recieve the absolute best care and attention available. I respect those who serve and do anything I can to help them, out of deserved respect.

Bdgizzy, those are the stories that make me treat veterans with the extra respect over all others. I'll put up with ALOT from veterans over "anyone" else.

Wonderful question.
Let them be covered by a govt HMO that only provides care in a VA or Military or Govt hospital.
Since the fur hit the fan at Walter Reed, i am wondering Why someone from the Senate Armed Forces committee didn't take a ride to Walter Reed and inspect the place.
If you recall, Walter Reed is on the list of Military facilities that is to be closed. I guess it was kept open because the Military needed the space. But dammit,. what happened was , pathetic.
Notice, no one in Washington is blaming Bush for this.
Look up Senate Armed Forces committee, and see the bunch of losers and whiners who are on this committee,
Also, FYI, Military medical care is among the best! Military medical facilities, well.......

I agree w/u 100%, I think it,s a shame what our soldiers have to go through over in Iraq & other countries. It is a disgrace that the gov. has that big of a hold on military families as too deligate where to go for medical treatment. It should be there choice as too what hospital to go to. Just too add a little more to the story, I worked for the Gov. for almost 10yrs., became close too some of the hurt soldiers from prev. wars, there was a guy who had both of his legs blown off and was hospitalized for months was discharged w/no place too go, so the gov. decided not too give this Veteran any benefits until he got a permant address, therefor he had no income,no transportation,no means of anything.
It is very very sad the way our soldiers are treated after serving our country and protecting our freedom. We should do what ever it takes too take care of them all. Lets all thank our Gov. for supporting our troops.

It wouldn't do any good. They'd just have a fancy suite and all the best of care--for the politicos. Nothing would change in the "back of the house" where the real problem is. What's needed is the one thing bureaucrats and politicians hate most--independant oversight of the system--and a ban on attempts at suppressing information--as the Bush administration is doing by trying to silence the soldiers who are patients.

I absolutely agree. I work for a volunteer ambulance service in our small town and whenever we have to take a patient to the VA, you can stand there forever waiting for someone to come and check them in. And usually it's an urgent matter. It's so sad that this is what our veterans have to go through. Health care is soooooooo broken, especially theirs. did you read the newsweek article about the care the soldiers coming home from iraq are getting? its pathetic
ADDED: can you imagine a senator waiting to see an E.R. doc for an hour? neither can I.

I agree...somewhat. The politicians would have special rooms to separate them from the public because of "security reasons". They would have special food because of "security reasons". They would have an excuse to avoid what each and every military individual has to encounter. Especially they would avoid sending any of their children to WAR.
Unless we, Americans, start protesting in the papers, on TV, in churches, schools, etc. the baron robbing mentality of our elected officials will continue. When I was young (about 60 years ago) we used to feel sorry for the Russian people because of their police system and the way their leaders lived the good life...today it's not Russia, it's America.

I think VA Hospitals are the best argument that we have to prove that the government getting involved in health care is a very bad mistake.

And why are you putting the blame on the politicians for this instead of the hospital and those running it? Not everything is the goverments fault and when you do this then the focus is taken off of the guilty parties.

Since they have already given themselves the best Socialized Medical care taxpayers can buy they might as well be required to use it at the VA hospitals. You can bet the one they use will have all the bells and whistles.

We didn't have to worry about it untill most military base hospitals were shut down under the Clinton administration.
By the way I am retired military and have been to a V.A. hospital and it wasn't what you are inferring that it is.
Retired military people and military people don't have to go to V.A. hospitals they have insurance under TRICARE
