Once he can hold his head up for longer periods he should be fine. Don't get one with the wheels though, they are an accident waiting to happen (If you can get those where you are, they are banned in Canada) I had my first daughter in one by around 4 months.

Do not buy a walker. They are dangerous and should not even be sold anymore. The American Academy of Pediatrics has actually called for a ban on the production and sale of them. They cause thousands of injuries and have even lead to death in a few cases. The new stationary activity centers are really great, and you can start them around 4 months - as soon as they can hold their heads up really. Also, just put him on the floor with some toys and let him move around there! Here's on article on the safety of walkers:

I'm from Canada and they are banned here ... I personally agree w/ the ban. I purchased a Jolly Jumper and a Excersaucer where my daughter could bounce as well and spin around. Both are stationary and safe. My daughter started walking at 9 months and she didn't need a walker. They both allow your child to bounce and build strength in their legs and explore w/ the excersaucer as well. But either way ... I had my daughter in an excersaucer and jolly jumper by 3 months... as long as they can hold their head up well then I would say it's safe.

If you are thinking of buying the walker you sit him in they actually arent good to get at all my son learned how to walk with the pusher way quicker than the sit in and also it is proven that it can confuse the baby because he will be walking but sitting at the same time and with the pusher it helps him realize he has to use certain muscles to go forward and stand up but the push walker it is meant for about six months. try getting him the jumpers so he can jump and get good leg muscles and use all his energy. hope this is understandable.

You can also get one of those stationary walkers for him. They have toys and stuff on top for him to play with. It will also help with his hand and eye coordination.
As for the age for a walker goes, I think it totally depends on the child. There are so many options available. If you do get him a walker and he is still to small for it just put it up so when you are ready for it bring it and to see if he is ready.
Hope this helps.

the winnie the pooh walker is for 4 months and higher. i put my son on the walker at 4 months jus so he can get used to it. by 4 and a half, he reached the floor. now at 8 months, he loves it. we bought it at walmart. it brings a musical play thing and some toys. and u can even move it to the side. you can also try the bouncer. the jumparoo is great cause they can exercise there legs. and if they dont want to jump, it brings toys too, so they can play. they sell that at target and at toysrus.

My son started using his exersaucer at 4 months and he was a premie. Be sure that your son can support his own head. I wouldn't suggest getting a walker, they are very unsafe, obviously because of stairs, but they can also cause bow legs. The exersaucer is definitely the way to go.

I just bought my son a walker. He will be 7 months old on the 11th of march. He really seems to like it. He doesn't really "walk" in it just yet but he will eventually.
Also he has a stationery jumperoo and he has been playing in that since he was about 4 months old.

He's not too young. I started putting my kids in walkers at about 4 months old, and they loved it. They'll follow you all around, and they tend to get their little hands into all sorts of mischief, so be alert if you decide to do this :) You're blessed!

walker is a waste of money. just lay a blanket on the floor and lay him down and sit next to him on the floor for tummy time. u can also get one of those entertainment toys that hang over him while he is on the floor.
