If it's done properly, it's like an embrace, very pleasant.
Some Japanese ties where care is taken to distribute the pressure properly, can be supported a long time.
Add a blindfold to increase that feeling of helplessness.
The time limit is not so much the physical discomfort, but often more prosaic: at 11 the children come home from school and other Real Life distractions.

I love it.
It's fun to play out a kidnap fantasy and get grabbed and tied to a chair in a dark basement, gagged and blindfolded and left that way for awhile. It makes you feel so helpless and my skirt slides up my legs as I struggle.... mmmmmmm, very hot.
