'Sound' is the kinetic energy transmitted in pressure waves of fluid (i.e. the organised vibration of the molecules of a substance in gas or liquid form).
When it strikes a solid surface, some of that kinetic energy will be transferred, causing the surface to vibrate, and some will be converted to heat (i.e. randomised vibration of the atoms/ molecules making up the surface), depending on the tendency of the surface to vibrate.
If the vibrating surface is a magetisable metal plate or wire, surrounded by the electromagnetic field produced by a flowing electric current (as in a 'live' mic), the vibration of the metal will induce fluctuations in the field and therefore in that current, in synchrony with the incoming 'sound waves'.
These fluctuations in the electrical signal are read (and altered) by your amp, and combined with other incoming signals by the mixer.
The adjusted electrical signal output from the amp/mixer is then converted back to sound at the speaker by reversing the earlier process: this time the fluctuating electrical signal causes a metal plate to vibrate, producing (amplified) soundwaves (so that the people at the back can hear the band on the stage!).

This is year 7 stuff that all children learn at age 11 or 12.
Voice -> microphone === sound -> electrical energy
mixer, pre-amp, amp === all electrical
wires from amp to loudspeaker === electrical -> sound

Well, the answers you've had about cover it from a purely physical point of view, but one further point is that sound is not a vibration in the air. Sound is what you experience within your own consciousness, in response to that vibration in the air.
The vibration in the air, is transferred to your eardrum, the middle ear bones, and the fluid in the inner ear, before being further translated into nerve impulses in the auditory nerve, and finally carried to the brain. None of that is the actual experience of sound however. Sound id not a property of the external universe: it is a property of your conscious mechanisms.

Where does all the sound go?
If sound did not get transformed, then the earth would be a noisy place (sound cannot escape the earth, it cannot travel through the vacuum of space).
It is transformed into heat as it is absorbed.

1a. ability is misplaced for the period of transmission of ability by using the resistance of the cord. this might effect in undesirable warmth. 1b. The losses are minimized with the help of expanding the voltage dealing with the cord. The resistance of a given length of cord is proportional to the scale. Ohm's regulation states that Voltage (V) = contemporary (i) x resistance (r). For a given length of cord, an more suitable voltage will enable an more suitable contemporary to bypass by using the cord. 2a Any electric powered gadget has to combat against resistance and/or friction. A toaster has no shifting factors for the duration of the heating technique so incredibly much one hundred% of the electricity is converted to warmth. an electric powered motor makes use of electricity to rotate. Resistance interior the wiring converts some electricity to warmth and the rotation of the motor is likewise generating friction. the warmth and friction is wasted ability. 2b. consumers can cut back wasted ability with the help of employing extra effectual (ability action picture star) instruments
