The Celeron D has a 512 L2 cache and an FSB of 533 mhz, it will benchmark somewhere around an AMD 2400+ - I think the answer is rather obvious. Just because it says Celeron doesn't mean it can't be used, it does mean that it will not come up to the full P4s of the same speed with a larger L2 cache and an 800 mhz FSB but it will certainly beat the AMD you mentioned.

AMD no longer uses CPU speed to measure, snce they normally benchmark much faster , so you need to see the actual benchmarks for both.
It also depends on what you plan to run on the machine.
Gaes, or business software ?
Ram is more important than CPU in most cases.

I hope this helps !
