I started working at summer camps the summer I turned 14. At that young age I was mostly doing dishes, housekeeping and babysitting, and the pay was awful. (It was technically volunteer work.)
I did have a LOT of fun though. I made some great friends and I worked hard.

The camps I worked for were church camps, which made my parents much more comfortable with me living away from home. Many religious/church camps require a statement of faith for you to work there. If you don't go to church or agree with the teachings there are secular camps as well. I don't know if you can be hired as an employee at 14. You may only qualify for "volunteer" positions - like I did. You'll need to check on the child labor laws in your state. (Your school guidance counselor should be able to tell you about them.) While you're talking to the guidance counselor you can ask if there have been any requests for a summer "nanny" position. A lot of times families with younger kids need a babysitter for the summer.

Start googling for summer camps in the part of the country you want to spend the summer in. (I would suggest starting FAIRLY close to home. - Plane tickets can be pretty steep, and it's always nice to know that you can get home in less than a day if something important happens.)
