It's because of all the censors. You can't have too much violence (Tom & Jerry), smoking (Popeye), etc. They think that changing things like that is going to make kids grow up normal.

They had to infuse education, or some sort of positive message into everything. Take Scooby Doo, There wasn't any counting or learning of spanish; It was just good clean fun. Looney Toons was amazing because they had amazing slapstick and somewhat witty writing at the same time. Nowadays, it seems like the stations are "writing down" to children. There's not any intelligent cartoons anymore. they're all stuff that you can't enjoy unless you have the mind of a 5 year old.

The children watching cartoons now might say the same thing years down the road. Your perception is embedded in your childhood and the good memories that came along with it. I'm sure somebody who is 60 thought that the Simpsons are awful and that they miss the days of Betty Boop and Mighty Mouse. Each generation thinks one is less or more important than the last or next. With DVDs and the internet we can at least revisit those days over again.

The creativity was excellent in the old days, not like today where it seems they're all 'factory' cartoons. The old Fleischer brother cartoons were great! Popeye, Betty Boop. Looney Tunes continues to be timeless, their target audience was adults as well as kids.

I always think that too. Maybe it's just we were younger and more easily impressed. I look at some of the stuff I used to watch back then and I'm a little embarrassed. There are a handful of good cartoons left but definitely not like there used to be. Saturday morning just isn't the same.

I agree with you 100%. Do you want to go back to the 80's with me? Give me my Care Bears, He-Man, Tom & Jerry, Alvin & the Chipmunks, Jem, and Beverly Hills Teens back!

The world is changing and nothing will ever be like it "used to" be. I personally loved "Fat Albert" and "The Jetsons". I guess it's the same as with the movies, nothing is left up to the imagination anymore. Thank you.
