By over-decorating themselves, are wearers of 'bling' merely overcompensating for a lack of something? Or is it "cooool"?

If you are talking about chavscum, I think they are mainly doing it to imitate rappers, they are mostly too young to remember Gerald Ratner saying his gold jewelry was cheap because it was crap. Perhaps they think the more you wear, the more hard we will think they are because it might be stolen, when actually we just think they are low class and know they got it in Argos or Asda, stolen or not.

For the younger person they love it , but when you do settle down a bit you save it , an then you pass it down to your children, so i have not got a problem with bling we all love it at one stage or another ..

YES. Hiphop is JOLOGS! If you've got Gold Bling you are either from Saudi Arabia or a Theif who just bumped hiphop bully styled it from the jewelry shop.
