No matter what Simon likes to say about it being a singing competition, the show is called American Idol, not American Singer. Charisma, looks and overall talent are just as important as singing. You only have to look as far as Brittany Spears to see it isn't just about the voice. I do agree Daughtry should have won last year, but he got his revenge as he is vastly outselling all the other Idols.

they say its a talent competition...but that's a complete lie. they base alot of it on looks. Thats why in some seasons, like season 2 for example, Carmen Rasmusen got how far...and she sounded like a goat/sheep....she made it pretty far in fact. She wasn't a good singer, but because she was good looking she made it far.
and you have in season 4,Scott Savol....he was terrible....and he wasn't attractive...but i think people wanted to keep him on there because he was terrible and to make people mad.

Same thing with Christ Daughtry, he was an amazing singer, and he actually isn't bad to look at either, but there were better looking contestants that people wanted to keep in there, and didn't care that he was better than the other contestants.

And sometimes, i can never even get into vote! i know one year, season 2, i never got in one time for Clay. They really need to fix their voting system.

You forget that even the tone deaf people can use the telephone. People in America will choose the best looking person for the show, it is a proven fact, evn if they couldn't sing a lick. People take too much stock in looks and things that don't matter.

How the voting goes:

Let's say there are 100 voters, to make it easier to explain.

80 people like Ann the best, Betty second, Carol third, Dan last.
17 people like Dan the best, Carol second, Ann third, and Betty last.
2 people like Carol first, Dan second, Ann third, and Betty last.
1 person likes Betty first, Ann second, Dan third, Carol last.

So even though more people like Betty better than Dan, Dan got more votes, because we only vote for first place! So Betty gets kicked off the show! Only one vote for first place for her, even though 81 liked her better than Carol and Dan.

So, this is how someone who's the second favorite of almost everyone can get kicked off, while someone that more people don't like gets to stay.

Many weeks it is a popularity contest rather than a singing competition. But, YOU are the only one that can change that. Stay on the phone and hit redial!

In YOU'RE opinion the wrong contestants were voted off. America says otherwise. Enevitably they would have been voted off anyway.

Because people are stupid. It's obvious that it's a popularity contest. Either that or it's rigged.
