How is it not enough, what is he doing?

Most infants are fine with just breastmilk for 9-12 months... alot like to play with solids before that, but they arent needed for nutrition.

You can try ripe bananas or avocados, or well baked potatoes or sweet potatoes.

Breastmilk is all he needs till 12 months actually - but from 6-12 months you can experiment with lots of different foods. Just remember that no other food in the world has more nutrients then breastmilk so that is what he needs the most of to grow a healthy body and brain.

As for how often to feed - it's totally up to the you and the child. At this age you don't even have to try everyday. During teething periods you might find he's totally uninterested. Just experiment and have fun.

A great first food is the avacado. It's soft, and has lots of vitamins, calories and protien.

Solids are usually OK to start now that he is 6 months old. Continue to feed him breast milk as you did before.

When starting solids, start with just one new food every 3 days (I found adding a new food item every week easier. You will want to keep track on a calender.

Gerber has a wonderful website with schedules and things you can print out that are very helpful.

Please read the following, then go to the website provided for more information:

The right time isn't based solely on your baby's age. It's based on physical and developmental signs of readiness. Ask your doctor if you have any questions.

Your baby may be ready if he:

Sits with support and has good head control, and

Has doubled his birth weight and weighs at least 13 pounds, and

Continues to be hungry after 8 to 10 breastfeedings, or drinks 32 oz. of formula in a day

Start with Rice Cereal, which most babies tolerate the best.
Pick a time with few distractions.
Give her a little breast milk or formula first to take the edge off her hunger.
For baby's first cereal feeding, mix 1 tablespoon of single-grain cereal to a smooth texture with about 4 tablespoons of breast milk, formula or water. (As she gets older, decrease the amount of liquid for a thicker texture.)
Using a spoon or your finger, put the cereal to her lips, not in her mouth, so she can use her sucking skills.
Introduce just one new variety 3 to 5 days in a row before starting a new one. This makes it easy to watch for food sensitivities. If you suspect a reaction to a food, stop feeding her that food and contact your pediatrician.
After rice, try oatmeal and, if successful, try barley.
Continue feeding cereal for the first two years, for a healthy start in life.

My son is 6 months old and he gets regular babyfood. I only give him single flavor things, not quite ready for babyfood with mutiple flavors just yet. He isn't much of a fruit eater but he LOVES vegetables.

He has cereal w/some fruit in it in the morning, then he will have either a fruit or vegetabe around lunch (ususally vegetable) and then in the evening he has another vegetable and i try to give him some fruit for a dessert. He also has formula throughout the day and then before bed he has a bottle with cereal in it.

By the way, he is a really big kid, 97th percentile in all his growth so he eats a little more than most kids his age. He currently weights 20lb 13ozs (last check up)

Keep foods simple. Only introduce a new food once every 4-5 days. This way it will be easy to know what {if at all} causes an allergy. start out slow, 2-3 times a day, the baby will let you know when it is enough and when he/she is hungry.

My children both did well with regular baby food. Also you can take the baby ceral and mix it with a little bit of milk and baby food...the fruit kind or regular food.
