Many schools in urban areas do not receive the attention, funding, and support needed to provide students with the educational advancements other schools have. Furthermore, as a result of poor funding, urban schools lose quality teachers and lack professional development training to assist teachers in the classroom. Often times, you will find that a lack of parental involvement is also the case. Children in urban area are already classified as "disadvantaged" and "at risk". Many students buy into these social constructs and begin to believe that they can not escape their realities. The truth of the matter is, these students need positive role models to assist them in their educational pursuit and make sure that they don't fall through the cracks of the educational system.

o me its the different lifestyles that they live. Kids in the Urban's have wonderful life from the suburbs. kids from the suburbs is trying there best to get out of the neighborhood that they live in. So they be more focus then kids in the Urban's. Test scores is a great way of showing there success. So they train harder nd harder until they get a perfect score on the test. And they always have faith in god no matter what they are going threw they always put god first.

You do know what you are talking about, and something should be done about it.
I work for the schools, not as a teacher, but as an aide on the special needs busses. I do have some physically challenged kids who are very good to work with, but most of my kids are behavioral disorder kids, and act horribly to all adults and teachers, as well as the other kids.
They sometimes get suspended now and then, but it really has no effect on them. I think something else needs to be done for these types of children. These types of kids could really care less if they get suspended or even kicked out of school ,and it seems that their parents don't care much either. They just blame the teachers or staff, as if we could possibly be capable of raising their child for them.
I wish there was a way that these kids and their parents could understand how important school will be in order for them to have a good life and a good future, but neither them, nor their parents see this.
I have considered writing to our superintendant or some other official to show them that this system really isn't working, and cheating kids out of an education. I havent decided who would be the most effective official to write to about it.
If you can find a good official person to voice your oppinions about this to, I would encourage you and any friends you have who agree with you to write too. The more letters they receive the more likely they will realize their is a problem and do something about it.
Thanks for caring!

I think its because of the environment the children live in and what their being influenced on. like in a suburban area, its clean beautiful and quiet where in different par ts of the urban area, theirs gang violence, drug abuse, and all that jazz. And also you have to compare how their being taught. I dont know how the suburbs do it but where ever i went to school, most(not all) of my teachers were horrible. I learned better from the textbook then from the teachers!!!

Many of these children have been told that they can't succeed. Others have teachers that just don't care. Two movies based on true stories about two teachers who fought for them have been made. I believe one is called the Ron Parks Story (correct me if I'm wrong), but I forgot the name to the other one.
All they need is someone who believes in them, and these teachers believed in them enough that they started succeeding. They helped them even when it didn't pertain to school. They cared about them.

people who get better test scores tend to do better in school and tend to make more money, people with more money tend to live in the suburbs, and parents who made more money and have better test scores tend to have children living with them in the suburbs of similar test score ability
