use milton sterilising solution to wash it out, and make sure that you clean out the drip tray which is situated on top of the compressor at the back (black motor) of the fridge with sterilising solution as well, and keep the drain hole free of muck, then keep a carbon odour pack in the fridge (you can buy them in the form of an odour egg at most supermarkets)

I have bought a smellkiller off QVC(made by Zilo). It is a round disk of metal and as long as it is in touch with both air and water there will be no smells around for miles (well, maybe that is a bit of an exageration). Seriously though, its great to leave in the bathroom or out on the kitchen unit to banish all smells!

You could keep half a lemon in the fridge or you could use a modern technique which is to get a fridge air freshener.

If you want a smell free fridge, cut open a lemon and leave it to dry out. If you cut it into several pieces it will be more effective.

Crush some barbecue charcoal. Rip your tights off and use the lttle bags of the toes, fill with crushed charcoal, place in fridge. But, never use this charcoal on a bbq, you'll get concentrated fridge smells!!!!

Strangely, vinegar was the answer to this problem for us; I think it was recommended by the fridge manufacturer. After routine cleanout, just wipe over the surfaces with vinegar on a cloth.

Just keep it spotlessly clean .... and wrap the strong smelling foods in a couple of layers of climgfilm and then a layer of aluminum foil and put that package into a bag that they give you when you take home ice cream ... or something similarly air-tight...

a box of baking soda works great. just open it and set it on the bottom shelf of the fridge and it will absorb most bad/strong odors.
