Found a dead mouse on kitchen floor this morning and I can't figure out how it died. TERRIFIED of them the last time I saw one in my old house I did'nt go back in the basement for 5 yrs. We have a cat but he was sleeping upstairs and could not have done it. We also have 3 dogs but there were no teeth marks and I dont know if one of them may have brought it in from outside lastnight but I think I would have seen it b4 going to bed because I was in the kitchen. Any ideas as to how it could have died and what is the best way to get rid of them( same scenario 2 days ago but bf did not tell me until now so I would not freak) and again this one was dead in the same spot with no visible signs as to what killed it. NEED HELP! I can't even tell you how scared I am.

The mice ate poison - it took a while to kill them - as they were dying they crawled out to open space and croaked.

Don't let your cat eat them - they are full of poison.

It might have been sick or just died of old age. Or maybe the people who lived there before you put some rat bait out in the basement/crawlspace. If I were you I'd go to the store and get some rat bait and put it under the house. You can also stuff steel wool into the openings around the pipes. Keep in mind a mouse can get into a hole the size of a dime.

Its not a mystery, check your detergent (Floor Cleaners) It is possible that over a time some detergent does stay on the floor and infects aunts, mice, and ladybugs. This would be the possible agent that infected this pest. If detergent gets on any animals feet it may over time infect them, causing harm over time, then death. A mouse is small and fragile and a weak amun-system. Another, choice if you are still concerned, take to have it examed by a professional, then you will know the truth, But! it will probly cost you. But at least you will know. Take care of your other pets.

Good Luck

it was probably one of the dogs. i used to have a dog who would kill mice near an outside basement by smothering them. they play with the mouse and bite it lightly then throw it around... either that or it was an alien! spooky!

It might have been brought in by the cat days ago. And if you've got no food around, it might have starved. Or else, it might be hurt internally and it has taken that long to die.

You have a lazy, overfed cat. The mouse died of old age.
